Laptop Computers and the PVP Effect!

Hover over bulky desktops, the soft laptop is there, and it’s here to stay! For some time now, laptops have outstripped their siblings desktop PCs, easily winning the gold medal at the Olympics sales of computers. We will illustrate how the PVP effect has largely contributed to the growing popularity of laptops.

(P) Portability:

First, it may be obvious, but people buy laptops because they can take them anywhere. Office workers should no longer be confined to their claustrophophic boxes. Instead, these statistical tables and data reports can be compiled into a train, in the comfort of an armchair or even on the beach! Portability is synonymous with flexibility, but alas, that has not always been the case. Today’s ultra-portable laptops have come a long way since the voluminous machines of the late seventies and early eighties, the size of a sewing machine. Indeed, one of the first laptops was built by IBM, and this machine (IBM 5100) weighed 50 kg! The warriors in today’s corridor would have trouble lugging this puppy from meeting to meeting, unless of course they submit to an intensive dose of steroids 🙂

(V) Value:

In the seventies, the aforementioned IBM 5100 would have cost you $ 20,000. Today, an upscale IBM Thinkpad can be purchased for around $ 3,000. You can often buy cheaper Thinkpads for less than a thousand dollars, especially if the purchase of a used or refurbished model does not bother you.

(P) Performance:

Many laptops today are equipped with Centrino processors that deliver outstanding performance and improved service life. What Centrino do I hear you asking? Well, that’s Intel’s name for their new laptop technology that combines their Pentium M processor, their 855 chipset and the Intel PRO / Wireless 2100 Wi-Fi 802.11 network interface. Laptops equipped with these processors are generally lighter because of the smaller components used.

Combine this appealing feature with wireless networking technology and you get a powerful technology package. Wi-Fi is an abbreviation of “Wireless Fidelity” and its use is growing rapidly among home users, office workers and even coffee shops. If you enter the Wi-Fi zones with a properly equipped laptop, you can access broadband internet.
